Lions prop duo out of final Test
Rugby Union, 12:05, June 28, 2009 ,
British and Irish Lions props Gethin Jenkins and Adam Jones will miss the third Test against South Africa after undergoing surgery.
Jenkins required an operation on a cracked cheekbone he suffered in Saturday's 28-25 defeat to the Springboks, while Jones also went under the knife in Pretoria on Saturday night after he dislocated his shoulder.
Brian O'Driscoll, Jamie Roberts and Tommy Bowe all went to hospital with respective concussion, wrist and elbow injuries which will leave them battling to be ready for next Saturday's dead rubber in Johannesburg, given that South Africa lead the three-Test series 2-0 following Saturday's win.
However Lions doctor James Robson is confident Ronan O'Gara will be ready to feature, despite needing stitches on a deep cut which left him unable to open his left eye.
Meanwhile Lions coach Ian McGeechan was delighted with his side's performance in Pretoria, despite them throwing away a commanding lead. The tourists led by 11 points with 20 minutes to play but South Africa won with the last kick of the match to clinch the series.
McGeechan said: "I don't think anybody expected this to be as competitive as it has been through both Tests.
"With a bit of luck it could have been very different."
