No holding back, says Gatland
Rugby Union, 09:50, June 27, 2009 ,
Warren Gatland has warned his British and Irish Lions players to take a backward step against South Africa on Saturday at their peril.
The tourists head for the Loftus Versfeld stadium, where the Springboks have won 71 percent of their games at altitude, looking to level the series following their 26-21 defeat in the Test opener in Durban.
Gatland says he fully expects the same "bully mentality" by the hosts and has told his players they must front up to any physical challenge to keep alive their hopes of a repeat of their series victory over South Africa in 1997.
"The South Africans have very much a bully mentality, to come in and try to dominate, pushing players off the ball," he said.
"You saw (Bryan) Habana getting into a player's face, and you saw (Bismarck) du Plessis.
