Review panel snub Cooper ban appeal

Rugby Union, 13:02, July 28, 2010

Australia have been hit by the news fly-half Quade Cooper has had his appeal against a two-match ban turned down by a review panel.

The 22-year-old was hit with the ban for upending South Africa's fly-half Morne Steyn during Australia's 30-13 Tri-Nations win in Brisbane last weekend. And, while the Wallabies felt the punishment was too harsh given the lesser bans meted out to some South African players, the judicial committee of tournament organisers Sanzar upheld the ban.
Therefore Australia will be without Cooper for their two Tests against New Zealand so Berrick Barnes will come into the side at inside centre, with Matt Giteau switching to fly-half.
