Ray Farningham has become Barry Smith's assistant at Dundee after leaving his position as Montrose manager.
Farningham joins the club he represented as a player between 1994 and 1998. He took over at Montrose in April 2011 and led them to an eighth-place finish in the Third Division this term.
"I am delighted to be back at Dundee to assist Barry who was my major reason for returning to Dens," Farningham told Dundee's official website.
"Hopefully working together we can get Dundee FC back to the Premier League where we belong."
Dundee finished second in the First Division this season, 24 points behind champions Ross County. Smith is looking forward to working with Farningham as the Dark Blues aim to go one better next season.
"Ray has great experience which will be invaluable to me in up and coming seasons," said the Dundee boss.
