Hamilton boss Billy Reid has been handed a blow with news that striker Jon McShane will miss most of the season with a knee injury.
The former St Mirren striker was sent for a scan last Tuesday and the initial analysis was that he would only be out for four weeks. However, it has now emerged that McShane faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines because of ligament damage.
"It is horrible news at any time but it is particularly cruel to hear it so soon after thinking it was only a short-term injury. We are all upset for the boy but he is only 21 and he can come back and have a good career," said Reid.
Hamilton are struggling at the wrong end of the Division One table, with just six points from their opening eight matches.
