Canning ends career
Scottish Division 2,
Albion Rovers midfielder Steven Canning has called time on his career after 12 years, in order to spend more time with his family.
The 29 year old was one of the Coatbridge side's heroes in last month's play-offs, when he returned from a loan spell at Junior side Bo'ness to help them to wins over Elgin City and Stranraer.
Canning began his career at Queen's Park in 2000 and he was a play-off hero at Hampden as well after scoring twice when Billy Stark's side got promoted by defeating East Fife 7-2 on aggregate in 2007.
Twelve months later Canning moved to Brechin City, where he played for two years before joining the Cliftonhill side.
Recently departed Rovers boss Paul Martin said: "Steven's performances in the play-offs were fantastic and a big contribution to Albion Rovers staying up. I wish him well in whatever he does next."
