Albion captain Ciaran Donnelly revealed Paul Martin announced he was quitting as boss moments before their dramatic shoot-out win.

Albion secured their Second Division survival after overturning a first-leg deficit against Stranraer at Cliftonhill on Sunday. Two goals down from the away leg, Albion came out fighting in front of their home fans. A Scott Chaplain double and a Robert Love strike handed Albion a 3-1 win and took the play-off final to penalties. As his players were preparing for the do-or-die shoot-out, Martin revealed he was quitting because of ill health. Donnelly, who scored the decisive spot-kick, admitted the bombshell fired up his side and inspired them to victory. "He (Martin) asked them to win the game and give themselves a good send-off, never mind him," said Donnelly. "This is a good way for him to leave because his stock will be high if he ever wants to return to the game."
