Work has begun at Annan Athletic's Galabank to create a "third generation" artificial pitch.
The refurbishment is set to cost around £592,000 with the Third Division club receiving money from the Scottish Government's Cashback for Communities scheme, as well as Dumfries and Galloway Council and Sport Scotland.
Annan hope the project, which will see the ground at Galabank levelled off, will be completed before the start of the Scottish Football League season.
Chairman Henry McClelland told BBC Scotland: "The time frame is very tight.
"Our first scheduled game in the Ramsdens Challenge Cup could be a home tie on the last Saturday in July.
"The likelihood of completion for that date is very, very tight."
If the work is not complete the SFL will allow Henry Cairney's side to play their first fixtures away from home.
