Arbroath booked their first-ever Ramsdens Cup semi-final berth with a 1-0 victory over Division Two rivals Stenhousemuir on Sunday.
The Red Lichties had hit the woodwork twice before their luck changed on 34 minutes, Scott Robertson nodding in after a corner by player-manager Paul Sheerin had been flicked on by Alex Keddie. Stenhousemuir were left with a mountain to climb when striker John Gemmell was shown a straight red card four minutes into the second half following a clash with Stuart Malcolm. The Warriors kept fighting, though, and they were thrown a lifeline when Keddie fouled Stewart Kean inside the area in the dying seconds. However, the Stenhousemuir striker blazed the spot-kick over the bar and Arbroath reached their first semi-final since a League Cup encounter against Third Lanark in 1959.
