Arbroath boss Paul Sheerin has secured the services of one-time St Johnstone team-mate Derek Holmes.
Sheerin fought off competition from Airdrie and Queen of the South to land the 33-year-old striker. Holmes began his career with Hearts before spells at Cowdenbeath, Raith Rovers, Ross County, Bournemouth, Carlisle United and Rotherham United. The forward then teamed up with Sheerin as St Johnstone won the First Division title in 2009. Holmes went on to play for Queen of the South and Airdrie and had the option of returning, but chose Arbroath. "Derek is a player I know well and he creates a lot of goals for his team-mates as well as having a strong physical presence which is something we have not had too much of," said Sheerin.
