Adkins identifies transfer target

Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins has revealed he will step up his search for a new defender this week.
The Irons boss has recently suffered a couple of setbacks in his bid to strengthen his side, having two bids rejected for Rochdale defender Craig Dawson.
The Championship strugglers have also been linked with Stockport's Michael Raynes but Adkins says he has now identified a new target who he hopes to sign before the transfer window closes.
"We have made another bid for a central defender and we will see what happens this week," Adkins told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.
"In the middle of last week, I thought we were getting close to an agreement, but towards the end of the week we did not seem quite so close.
"That's what things are like in the January transfer window. We have even suggested a loan deal with view to a permanent move."
