Adkins plays down debut talk

Scunthorpe United, 14:42, February 4, 2010 ,

Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins says he is confident of having David Mirfin fit for Saturday's clash against Crystal Palace.

The former Huddersfield player picked up a hamstring injury during the Irons' 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers last week and had to be taken off before half time.
Mirfin's injury could open the door for new signing Michael Raynes after he completed his move to Glandford Park on Monday, although Adkins is hopeful he won't have to throw his new defender in at the deep end.
"Everyone's looking good, except for David Mirfin, who has not trained this week," Adkins told the club's official website.
"He is going to do some more work with Alex Dalton now so we're hoping he will be on the training ground on Friday and can make himself available.
"We had a great training session on Thursday morning, the lads are buzzing and we played at a high tempo.
"We look fit and we look sharp."
