Benefit match for Byrne
Scunthorpe have offered a benefit match to departing skipper Cliff Byrne, released 12 months short of his testimonial year.
The 30-year-old Irishman, who has spent the last nine years at Glanford Park, is out of contract this summer and has not been offered a new deal by the club. Byrne, who started his career at Sunderland, would have qualified for a testimonial match in 2013 and although he will fall short, the club are keen to acknowledge the defender's services. Byrne will be best remembered by Iron fans for scoring a last-minute equaliser against Tranmere on the final day of the 2008/9 season that secured a top-six finish before leading the club to play-off final glory at Wembley.
