Williams praise for defence
Scunthorpe United, 18:05, February 3, 2010 ,
Scunthorpe full-back Marcus Williams has hailed his side's recent improvement in form and believes their defence has been the key.
The Iron have won three of their last four league fixtures, keeping clean-sheets twice, putting a seven point gap between Scunthorpe and the relegation zone.
Scunthorpe's defence came in for heavy criticism at the start of the season, while Williams admits the criticism was hard to take he is delighted his side are now pushing up the table.
He said: "We've taken some criticism so now it's nice to be getting a bit of praise,
"We've worked on a lot of things to try and improve things defensively.
"We're doing a lot more on trying to close the ball down, which is good for us, and everybody knows how everybody plays now.
"I don't really know what has changed, but we're working really hard and are cutting out the mistakes that had been critical.
"We're also taking our chances more, which is something we've needed to do. If you don't put the ball in the back of the net, you'll get punished.
"And as well as scoring goals, we're keeping more out too. It's been a good spell for us."
