Duo stunned in Serie A

Roma and Lazio's European aspirations were dented by respective defeats to Fiorentina and Novara on Wednesday afternoon.

Giuseppe Mascara kept Novara's slim hopes of staying in Serie A alive when he came off the bench to score the winner in a 2-1 win over Lazio, who stay in third spot after Inter Milan won 3-1 at Udinese. Francesco Totti's goal was not enough as goals from Stevan Jovetic and Andrea Lazzarri handed Fiorentina the win to leave Roma five points off third. Napoli defeated Lecce to move them up to fourth thanks to Marek Hamsik and Edinson Cavani's goals, while Parma secured a shock 2-1 win at Palermo and Bologna snatched a point at Siena.
