Mutu makes Viola title claim

Serie A, 13:54, September 6, 2008

Adrian Mutu says he snubbed a move to Roma in the transfer window as he believes Fiorentina have as good a chance of winning Serie A.

The Romanian international was on the verge of an £18million move to the Stadio Olimpico, but it collapsed before the deadline when the former Chelsea and Juventus man decided to stay put with the Viola.

Mutu claims he was instrumenatl in the transfer not going through because he feels Roma cannot offer him as good an opportunity to win the Italian title then his current club.

He told the Corriere dello Sport: "President Andrea Della Valle and Cesare Prandelli were instrumental in turning down the transfer, but above all others it was me who pulled the plug.

"I decided to stay and, although Fiorentina are not able to win the title this year, I am absolutely certain things will be different in the future."

Punters who feel Mutu made the right decision in staying put might use a £25 free bet to back Fiorentina to win the Serie A title this season, despite the striker's claims it may be too soon.
