New twist in betting trial

Federal Prosecutor Stefano Palazzi is set to appeal last week's rulings in the betting trial which saw several players acquitted.
Palazzi had suggested sentences for several individuals, and wanted a 42-month ban for Leonardo Bonucci and a 12-month ban for Simone Pepe.
But both players, along with Marco Di Vaio, Daniele Padelli, Giuseppe Vives and Nicola Belmonte, were acquitted as Andrea Masiello's testimony was ruled as inconsistent.
Juventus coach Antonio Conte was given a 10-month ban and Lecce were relegated to the Lega Pro for alleged involvement in match fixing but it appears as though Palazzi is not happy with the outcome and all parties concerned now have a few days in which to prepare their defence, before the Federal Court considers the appeal on August 20 and 21.
