Vincenzo Montella has been appointed Fiorentina's new head coach following weeks of speculation surrounding the 37-year-old's future.
The Tuscans have been looking for a new manager since the departure of Delio Rossi in May and have now announced that they have signed the highly-rated young coach on a contract that will run until July 2014, with the option for an extra season. After a successful playing career, Montella took his first steps into management as caretaker boss at Roma before joining Catania, who he steered to 11th place in the Serie A table last season. Following the departure of Luis Enrique, the former Italian international was expected to move back to the Olimpico but with the Giallorossi preferring Czech veteran Zdenek Zeman, it has now been confirmed that he will take charge of the Viola next season.
