Blades hunt for loan star
Sheffield United, 10:09, January 25, 2010 ,
Sheffield United are considering a move into the loan market ahead of Tuesday's clash with Reading due to a shortage of centre-halves.
Jonathan Fortune got his chance alongside Chris Morgan in Saturday's FA Cup defeat to Bolton after recently signing an extension to his short-term contract.
However, the former Charlton defender hasn't played much first-team football this season, so two games in four days could be a big ask for him.
Blades boss Kevin Blackwell had no choice but to include him from the start at the weekend after Marcel Seip pulled out of the side just before kick-off after tearing a hamstring.
United were already short of cover at the back following Matthew Kilgallon's move to Sunderland late last week.
It's understood Reading defender Alex Pearce and Stoke's Andrew Davies are Blackwell's main targets although the Royals would be unlikely to do business with the Blades before playing them.
The other option is Davies, a player who is no stranger to the club having enjoyed a prolonged stint at Bramall Lane earlier in the season.
