Defender set to return

Sheffield Wednesday, 17:42, August 25, 2009 ,

Mark Beevers is set to return to action against Port Vale and hopes to stake his claim for a regular first-team place.

Beevers did not even make the bench as Wednesday hammered Scunthorpe 4-0 at the weekend and the defender admits he now faces a battle to win his place back, starting with the Carling Cup showdown tonight.
"There's me, Richard Wood, Darren Purse and Richard Hinds, and only two (centre half] places, so there are going to be two disappointed faces," Beevers revealed.
"All four performed well in pre-season. I feel as though I have earned my place, but I've got to be patient. Hopefully my chance will come again.
"It's not a massive squad but I think everybody in it feels he has a chance to play.
"When I get my chance I've got to go in there and try to improve again. Woody and Darren Purse have both done well. Hindsy and I have got to match that, or do even better."
