Eagles to win striker race
Sheffield Wednesday, 12:01, June 16, 2009 ,
Crystal Palace are now heading the chase to sign Freddie Sears much to the disappointment of Sheffield Wednesday.
Palace boss Neil Warnock expressed an interest in the young striker after West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola revealed last month that Sears is likely to go out on loan in order to gain some regular first-team action.
Wednesday boss Brian Laws was hoping to do a deal for the young striker but now it looks as though Palace are favourites as West Ham would prefer for him to stay in London.
Sears and Zola would reportedly like Sears to stay in the capital, making it easier for the teenager to settle and for West Ham to keep tabs on his progress.
The news will come as a blow to Laws, who may now have to look elsewhere as he searches for a new striker.
