Striker suffers injury setback
Sheffield Wednesday, 12:43, August 3, 2009 ,
Wednesday striker Akpo Sodje faces an anxious wait to see if he will be fit for the big kick off after suffering a groin injury.
The striker hit Wednesday's first goal in the Owls 2-2 draw against Premier League side Blackburn Rovers on Saturday but was forced off in the second half after suffering the injury.
The news will come as a major blow to Sodje, who has endured an injury hit spell over the last two years, and he now faces a race against the clock to be fit in time for Wednesday's first league game against South Yorkshire rivals Barnsley.
"Everything had gone so well in pre-season. Whether it has been soured because of this game, I don't know. It's difficult to tell until we know the extent of Akpo's injury," boss Brian Laws told the Sheffield Star.
Darren Potter (thigh), Tommy Miller (thigh) and Richard Hinds (ankle) all missed the draw with Blackburn but all three are expected to be fit in time to face Barnsley on Saturday.
