Wednesday list bad boy

Sheffield Wednesday, 13:03, August 26, 2009 ,

Francis Jeffers has been slapped on the transfer list after punching an opponent in Wednesday's Carling Cup defeat at Port Vale.

The striker has also received the maximum club fine, which is two weeks wages, for his actions that saw him red carded after just 37 minutes of the Carling Cup tie.
Jeffers was given his marching orders for appearing to headbutt and punch Vale skipper Tommy Fraser. The former Arsenal player has since apologised for the incident but manager Brian Laws has little sympathy for him.
Laws said: "His conduct was totally unacceptable and something this football club will not tolerate from any player.
"We have therefore enforced the heaviest punishment available to the club with immediate effect and transfer-listed the player.
"The kind of behaviour enacted on Tuesday night is completely unacceptable and does not represent what Sheffield Wednesday stands for and clearly sets a bad example for the game of football."
Jeffers has struggled for form and fitness since joining the Owls at the start of last season, registering just three goals.
