Bond completes Ebdon mission
Snooker, 12:20, April 22, 2009 ,
Former champion Peter Ebdon was sent crashing out of the Betfred.com World Championship at the first hurdle by Nigel Bond.
Bond, a finalist in 1995, took the initiative on Tuesday morning when grinding out a 5-4 lead and returned to the Crucible Theatre in the evening to see 2002 champion Ebdon claim the first before winning five in a row to clinch a one-sided 10-5 win.
The Derbyshire potter will play either Ryan Day or Stephen Lee in the last 16, but admitted: "I don't really mind who (out of Day and Lee) gets through.
"I'm happy to just still be there, punching away. I look forward to a best of 25, which I haven't played since 2006 when I beat Stephen Hendry.
"I feel that if I produce the stuff I'm capable of then I'm capable of doing some damage and beating anyone really.
"I wanted to finish the season on a high, and Peter was obviously favourite after winning the ranking event in China.
"So in that respect I suppose I didn't really have anything to lose."
