Carter crushes Robertson at Welsh Open

Snooker, 11:49, January 28, 2010 ,

Defending champion Allister Carter defeated Australian Neil Robertson 5-2 to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the Welsh Open.

Carter's success included a break of 115 as he was barely troubled, but three-time winner Stephen Hendry crashed out after being defeated 5-3 by Welshman Ryan Day in their second round encounter.
It was the first time Day had beaten Hendry in his career after four previous attempts and the fans at the Newport Centre were overjoyed with his feat.
"I'm chuffed to get through. I don't look at past records and I was always going to enjoy the game," said Day.
"My confidence was very low last night against Tony Drago, but once I got through that the pressure was off. To beat Stephen any time is a good result, but especially when he's hitting the ball well."
Elsewhere world champion John Higgins defeated Ireland's Michael Judge 5-2, Masters champion Mark Selby was also a comfortable winner as he beat fellow Englishman Judd Trump 5-2 and two-time winner Williams eased through into the second round with a 5-2 win over Fergal O'Brien.
However, UK champion Ding Junhui was defeated 5-3 by Jamie Cope.
