Ali Carter wasted little time in finishing off his first-round match at the World Championships, beating Mark Davis 10-2.
The 32-year-old had already taken advantage of his Hastings opponent feeling unwell to establish an 8-1 overnight lead, and took two of the first three frames to seal his progress - clinching the match with superb break of 132. The 2008 runner up to Ronnie O'Sullivan has now set up a meeting with tournament favourite Judd Trump, who himself almost pulled out of the tournament with food poisoning before beating Dominic Dale 10-7. Carter was relieved to have booked a safe passage to the next round, given the seeded casualties at the Crucible already this year. "I'm pleased with the way I played there. "Mark obviously felt under the weather but it was a good performance from me. "I'm not getting too excited yet."
