Higgins to face Carter for Welsh crown

John Higgins defeated Ronnie O'Sullivan 6-4 to set up a Welsh Open final against defending champion Ali Carter at the Newport Centre.

The Scot managed to pull clear following a tight semi-final in which they were tied at 4-4, before he took the final two frames to progress. Reigning world champion Higgins' win against the 'Rocket' O'Sullivan will now see him face Carter, who he has yet to lose against in his career.
"I feel as good as I ever have and feel confident in my game," said Higgins.
"I've lost in a couple of semi-finals so I'm hoping I can win this one. Ali is next door to me in the hotel so I'll keep the television on all night to try and put him off."
Carter earned his chance to defend the title, which he won when defeating Joe Swail in the final a year ago, after a 6-3 victory over Stephen Maguire.
The 30-year-old said: "It was a tough match - I never felt that comfortable out there so I'm delighted to get through.
"But looking at who I've got in the final I know I'm going to have to up my game a bit.
"I'm pleased with what I'm doing, I'm just trying to take the expectation off myself and look at one ball at a time and one frame at a time."
