Murphy loses of to Junhui

Snooker, 10:45, December 9, 2009 ,

UK Champion Shaun Murphy has failed to defend his title after losing 9-3 to China's Ding Junhui in the second round of the tournament.

Having opened up a 6-2 lead in the opening session Junhui always looked to be in total control of the match and needed just four frames when play resumed to book his place in the quarter-finals, where he will face Ali Carter after his 9-5 victory over Stephen Lee.
Joining the pair in the quarter finals will be world number one Ronnie O'Sullivan after he comfortably overcame Peter Edon 9-3 to book his place against Mark Selby.
World champion John Higgins also made it into the last eight after coming through a thrilling match with Australian Neil Roberston, the contest going down to a final set decider with Higgins holding his nerve to produce a break of 69 and take the match 9-8.
Higgins now face China's Liang Wenbo after he destroyed Mark King 9-2, while Peter Lines and Stephen Maguire will square off against one another after beating Mark Williams and Stuart Bingham respectively.
