Uk Championship final spot for Ding
Snooker, 10:28, December 12, 2009 ,
Ding Junhui beat world number two Stephen Maguire 9-5 to secure his place in Sunday's final of the UK Championship.
The 28-year-old world number 14 went into the semi-final as the underdog given that he had lost six of his last seven meetings with Maguire.
However breaks of 66, 75 and 83 helped him open up a 5-3 lead over the Scot in the first session.
Maguire hit back after the break to level at 5-5, but Ding's break of 134 saw him take frame 11.
The Chinese player went on to win the next three frames to set up a meeting with the winner of the second semi-final between Ronnie O'Sullivan and John Higgins.
Ding said: "At 5-5 there was a lot of pressure on me but I was lucky in the next frame.
"He potted the red and the white went in off and left me an easy chance. I just had to keep my concentration and make a big break.
"The next match will be very hard. They (O'Sullivan and Higgins) are both good."
