Writ incident mars Hamilton win
Snooker, 13:27, February 21, 2009 ,
World number four Mark Selby was issued with an apparent writ before his quarter-final defeat to Anthony Hamilton in the Welsh Open.
The member of the audience, later revealed as Sebly's former manager George Barmby, lent into the auditorium and gave the Englishman an envelope, saying :"You are being served with a writ and bankruptcy notice".
Selby split from Barmby three years ago but after claiming he hadn't heard what his former manager had said Selby denied the right to comment on whether the writ was really.
"No comment. I just want to talk about snooker," said Selby.
Selby was obviously distracted by the incident as he lost the first two frames to Hamilton before launching something of a recovery to make it 2-2 before eventually losing the match 5-3.
"All I could think about was what was in the envelope," added the Welsh Open's defending champion.
Hamilton will now face Ali Carter in the semi-final of the tournament.
