Adkins faces fight for Rovers ace

Southampton will reportedly face competition from Dutch outfit Ajax for the signature of Blackburn Rovers defender Scott Dann.

Saints boss Nigel Adkins was linked with a swoop for the 25-year-old centre-back at the end of June when it emerged that the player wanted to quit Ewood Park following Rovers' relegation from the Premier League last season.
Fellow top-flight new boys West Ham have also been linked, while it has now emerged that Dutch champions Ajax have entered the race for Dann's services.
Ajax are keen to take Dann on loan as a replacement for Jan Vertonghen who recently signed with Spurs, while the sticking point for the Saints' efforts to take him on a permanent basis is the £6million buy-out clause in the player's contract.
It appears Adkins is not keen on using a massive chunk of his summer transfer kitty to sign Dann and might look for a cheaper alternative.
