Adkins 'gutted' not to win title
Nigel Adkins revealed his disappointment at failing to win the Championship title despite clinching automatic promotion back to the Premier League.
Saints confirmed their return to England's top flight with Saturday's 4-0 home win over Coventry - clinching back-to-back promotions in a remarkable two-year period for the south-coast club. But despite the celebrations following the final whistle at St Mary's, Adkins admitted a stumble in form towards the end of the campaign which allowed Reading to sneak into top spot was cause for frustration. "It's a great achievement to get promoted, I'm gutted we haven't won the league to be honest, I really wanted to win the league so we'll have to get over that," he said. Adkins added: "Now we've got to look at a new set of goals. We've achieved that, we've got to go and achieve something else."
