New date needed for Chelsea trip
Southampton,
Last updated:
Southampton will have a free weekend in the lead-up to Christmas after their trip to Chelsea was postponed due to a fixture clash.
The Saints had been scheduled to face the Blues in a Premier League game at Stamford Bridge on December 15, but a new date will need to be found as Roberto Di Matteo's men are due in Japan to play in the FIFA Club World Cup between 6th-16th.
Chelsea qualified for the competition, which is currently held by Barcelona, by virtue of winning the Champions League final against Bayern Munich last season.
The rearrangement leaves Nigel Adkins' newly promoted side with a break in the fixture list between the visits of Reading to St. Mary's on December 8th and Sunderland on December 22nd.
