Saints chief eyes double raid
Southampton are again being linked with a double swoop for Celtic striker Gary Hooper and Blackburn defender Scott Dann in January.
Saints boss Nigel Adkins was heavily linked with a raid on the Hoops for 24-year-old Hooper, who he signed from Hereford and managed during their time together at Scunthorpe, in the summer but nothing materialised at the time.
The Englishman has an excellent scoring record at Parkhead with 63 goals in 108 appearances, including 12 already this season. And it is being suggested that Adkins will return to the SPL champions with an offer to take Hooper back south of the border and link him up with Rickie Lambert in the second half of the Premier League season.
However, Hoops boss Neil Lennon has stressed that he does not want to lose Hooper, while the player will no doubt be keen to stay in Glasgow after the team qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Meanwhile, Adkins has also been linked with another bid for Dann next month.
The Saints were put off by Rovers' demand for a £6million fee in the summer when he initially enquired about the 25-year-old. But with Rovers struggling in their quest to make an immediate return to the Premier League, it is being reported that a fresh bid will be made in January.
