Gaston Ramirez and Maya Yoshida could make the first Southampton appearances against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
Saints boss Nigel Adkins splashed out £12million to sign Ramirez from Bologna before the August 31 transfer deadline, while Japan international, Yoshida, signed for £2m from VVV Venlo. The duo were unable to feature in the Saints' 3-2 home defeat against Manchester United on September 2, but Adkins is now able to call upon them for the trip to north London. Ramirez and Yoshida have not trained much with the Saints as they have been away on international duty, but they are expected to feature at some point this weekend. Emmanuel Mayuka, who joined in a £3.5m move from Young Boys Berne, will be pushing for a start after stepping off the bench against United. Guly do Prado may be dropped after this week admitting drink-driving, while Danny Fox is in contention after overcoming a groin injury that ruled him of international duty with Scotland. Jack Cork is close to a return from an ankle problem picked up in pre-season, but the Gunners game is likely to come too soon. The Saints are searching for a first point of the season and Adkins is enjoying the task of trying to send out a team capable of challenging the likes of Arsene Wenger's Arsenal. "The challenge is getting a team ready for the Barclay's Premier League and that's what we've embraced," he said.
