Saints turn to out of favour winger

Southampton, 16:57, September 17, 2008 ,

Southampton manager Jan Poortvliet will be forced to turn to out of favour Nathan Dyer after Lee Holmes was ruled out for two months.

Holmes picked up a medial ligament injury during the Saints' 4-1 defeat against QPR at the weekend meaning that Dyer is likely to be given an extended run in the side, starting tonight against Ipswich.
The winger had been frozen out of the first team after he refused to sign a new contract and has also recently admitted a charge of burglary.
"It's disappointing because Lee has played very well," said boss Jan Poortvliet.
"Nathan Dyer did well after he came on at the weekend, but other players will now also have to come in and show what they are capable of doing."
