Striker facing spell on sidelines

Southampton, 11:34, September 11, 2008 ,

Southampton striker Jason Euell could be out for six months after receiving a shoulder injury whilst on reserve team duty.

The 31-year-old front-man suffered the injury while playing against Bristol City in a reserve team match and could be out for up to six months should he require surgery.
Euell first suffered a shoulder injury a decade ago while playing for Wimbledon and it is a problem that has dogged his career ever since.
A club statement said: "If a further operation is deemed necessary, Euell could be looking at approximately six months out of action."
"But Saints are hoping he could be back in half that time if there's no need to go under the knife."
The loss of Euell will come as a massive blow to Saints boss Jan Poortvliet, Southampton have a young squad and the experience of Euell could prove a costly loss to the South coast side.
