Walsall firm on Gerrard offer

Southampton, 16:36, September 4, 2008 ,

Walsall refused to let Anthony Gerrard leave on deadline day because the offer from suitors Southampton was "not acceptable".

The 22-year-old is transfer listed at his own request and has been told by manager Jimmy Mullen he risks being dropped if his desire to leave affects his form.
Mullen has told the defender he still has a part to play but has warned he will not hesitate dropping Gerrard if he gets the impression he is not giving his all.
He told the Express & Star: "The player will not be sold unless we receive a substantial offer. The offer that we got was not acceptable.
"It is in the past and we are just looking forward. I spoke to him and he was fine, there were no problems.
"If he plays with the same level of commitment and desire he has shown throughout his time here, then he will continue to be a very valuable member of our squad."
