Motherwell manager Stuart McCall admits he needs "bodies in" if they are to compete at the right end of the SPL.
Well are unbeaten at the start of the new season but have suffered two disappointing home draws, including Sunday's 1-1 stalemate against St Mirren.
McCall's side finished third last season and were expected to be one of Celtic's closest challengers during the new campaign.
The former Scotland international knows he needs to add more quality, but will not be forced into panic buying as Friday's transfer deadline looms.
"The young guys did great (against St Mirren) and it was probably one of the youngest teams that Motherwell have ever fielded," said McCall.
"We are trying to strengthen the squad, I don't want to bring in players that won't improve the team, but we need bodies in."
