Raith Rovers have given manager John McGlynn the green light to replace Paulo Sergio as Hearts chief.

Hearts made an official approach this week and Raith have given McGlynn permission to enter talks with the Tynecastle outfit. The 50-year-old previously worked as a coach at Hearts and twice stepped in as caretaker boss in 2005. He looks set to become their new manager within the next few days following a six-year spell with Rovers. "Raith Rovers FC announces that Heart of Midlothian FC have formally sought permission to speak to John McGlynn regarding the vacant manager's position at Tynecastle," said a Raith spokesman. "The board of directors has an excellent relationship with John and has no wish to stand in the way of his career progression should an opportunity arise for him. Accordingly we have acceded to Hearts' request."
