Boss backing for striker

St Mirren, 12:50, December 9, 2008 ,

Saints boss Gus MacPherson has backed striker Dennis Wyness to continue scoring after he ended a 14-month goal drought at the weekend.

Wyness netted in the Saints 2-1 win over Falkirk at the weekend, his first goal for the club and MacPherson is confident he can keep finding the net.
He told the Daily Record: "Dennis is a student of the game. He reads things so well and is so much more than a goalscoring striker.
"His link-up play and passing are crucial to our team so his goal tally wasn't too much of a problem for me.
"Anyone who has watched us regularly this season will have seen we're playing better football and passing the ball about more and Dennis is vital to that style. But he's like any striker.
"He puts himself in the firing line and wants to score goals and when he doesn't it can become a problem.
"Now that the monkey is off his back with that goal we could see even more from him."
