Scunthorpe are targeting a swoop for Stockport captain Michael Raynes when the transfer window opens next month.
The Hatters are struggling for money and will be forced to sell if any good offers come in for the 22-year-old centre-back and both the Iron and Brighton are keen.
However a chance to play in the Championship is expected to win the day for Scunny boss Nigel Adkins and a £75,000 deal is expected to go through.
