Stoke have stolen a march on Everton and are in pole position to sign former England striker Michael Owen later this month.
The 32-year-old was released from Manchester United at the end of the season after three injury-plagued years at Old Trafford, playing just 10 games since January 2011. Despite his injury concerns Owen confirmed he had no plans to retire, putting a host of clubs on alert to his availability, with Everton and Stoke taking a particular interest. With David Moyes' future at Goodison Park having been thrown into doubt by speculation linking him with the vacant managerial post at Tottenham Stoke are looking to steal a march on their rivals. The move to the Britannia Stadium seems like a perfect fit for Owen, who's Manor House Stables are just 30 minutes away from the Potters home. Stoke boss Tony Pulis has recently admitted he is a big fan of Owen and if the latest reports are to be believed he could get his man before too long.
