Stoke City are believed to be in talks with West Ham striker Dean Ashton as Tony Pulis looks to strengthen his squad.
Pulis is searching for a proven Premier League goalscorer and has admitted he would be interested in signing Michael Owen.
However, the latest reports say Ashton is a more realistic target and a deal in the region of £6million has been mentioned for the Hammers' injury-prone forward.
Ashton has said he plans to return to pre-season training early this summer to ensure he is fully fit for the new Premier League season after missing the majority of last term with his troublesome ankle injury.
The former Crewe star made just five appearances for Gianfranco Zola's side and his ongoing injury concerns are believed to be one of the major reasons the Hammers boss would be willing to sell at the right price.
