Whelan eyeing Euro progress
Stoke midfielder Glenn Whelan is hoping the club's win over Blackburn can inspire them to Euro glory against Dynamo Kiev.
The Potters ended a run of four straight defeats with a 3-1 victory over Rovers at the Britannia on Saturday, a result that lifts them up to 12th place in the Premier League table.
Their domestic struggles are in sharp contrast to their results in Europe, with the Potters currently four points clear in Group E.
Victory over the Ukrainians at the Britannia Stadium on Thursday will ensure qualification for the knock-out stages with a game to spare.
And Whelan has urged his team-mates to take confidence from Saturday's win and make it a European night to remember.
He told the club's official website: "It was one of those occasions when the result mattered more than the performance on Saturday and now we have the chance to kick on after the recent run.
"The Dynamo Kiev game is a massive one for the players and the Club because European nights like this certainly don't come around too often.
"But the lads are buzzing now and the Blackburn win will give us the confidence to go into Thursday's match and get the result that we need."
