Whitehead deal approved by LL

Stoke City, 11:04, July 17, 2009 ,

Stoke star Liam Lawrence admits he has personally recommended Sunderland midfielder Dean Whitehead to boss Tony Pulis.

Whitehead, who captained the Black Cats last season, looks set to quit the Black Cats this summer and Lawrence has already talked him out of a move to Ipswich, who are managed by former Sunderland chief Roy Keane.
Lawrence, who himself signed a new four-year deal this week, told the Sentinel: "I said a few things which I had better not go into. I just said you want to be in the best league and this is a club going forward here at Stoke.
"I spoke to him the other day and I speak to him quite regularly. Obviously the gaffer fancies him and he asked me about him...I gave it my full backing.
"Maybe it's time he moved on from Sunderland for a new challenge. Yeah, it would be great if they thrash things out and he comes here."
