African star linked with move

Sunderland, 14:59, June 23, 2009 ,

Sunderland have entered the race to sign Tottenham midfielder Didier Zokora as his move to Sevilla hit the rocks.

Zokora is keen to leave White Hart Lane in search of first-team football and a move to Sevilla looked to be on the cards until the La Liga outfit baulked at the asking price.
Spurs want at least £8million for the Ivory Coast international and Black Cats boss Steve Bruce would have the funds to complete a deal if he pursued his interest.
Sunderland completed a triple raid on White Hart Lane last summer when signing Teemu Tainio, Steed Malbranque and Pascal Chimbonda and Zokora could also be set for a move, while Darren Bent is another a target.
The Black Cats would face competition from Atletico Madrid, while Sevilla have not given up all hope of striking a deal.
