Sunderland are expected to complete the signing of Steven Fletcher this week but are still after West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie.
The Fletcher deal is likely to be wrapped up by the weekend before the clash with Reading but Martin O'Neil will not stop there and Baggies striker Odemwingie has emerged as a target.
Sunderland are not alone though as West Ham also want him but the Baggies are under no pressure to sell and will only allow him to leave if someone comes up with the £10m asking price.
The Nigerian forward remains in the plans of Baggies boss Steve Clarke but Albion could be convinced to sell if their asking price as it represents good business for a player who is 31-years-old.
The Black Cats are also after Adam Johnson from Manchester City but face a fight with Liverpool for him.
