Marton Fulop has vowed to take advantage of Craig Gordon's injury to become Sunderland's first choice goalkeeper again.
Fulop displaced Gordon in goal last season and started the new campaign with the keeper's gloves, only to lose his place to the Scotland international after his own injury.
But Hungarian is now set for another lengthy run in the team with Gordon sidelined by a broken arm suffered in the Black Cats' last game against Tottenham and is determined to make the most of his chance.
Fulop told the Shields Gazette: "I played the first three games of the season, but I was playing with the injury and finally I couldn't continue.
"Craig came in and did fine, so the manager did not change the team when I got fit again.
"I hope I can take my chance and prove myself, like I did last season when Craig was injured.
"It's an awful experience to be playing well and enjoying your football, and then be out because of injury.
"I am sorry that Craig has got hurt, but I have my chance again now and I want to take it."
