Black Cats duo step up return

Sunderland, 15:27, September 30, 2008 ,

Sunderland have been boosted by the news Kenwyne Jones is closing in on a return to full fitness following a serious knee injury.

Jones has been on the sidelines since damaging cruciate knee ligaments while playing for Trinidad and Tobago against England back in July but has made a quicker than expected recovery.
The striker has got the all-clear from the surgeon to step up his comeback much to the delight of boss Roy Keane. Same goes for Martyn Waghorn, who has also made rapid progress from a knee injury.
"Both Kenwyne and Martyn are making brilliant progress," Keane revealed. "They both saw the surgeon last week and he was absolutely delighted with the two of them.
"The surgeon actually said to Waggy that he doesn't look as though he's ever had an injury. And it was quite a nasty knock that he got in training so that's great news."
